Khûd Zagin

Khûd Zagin

Leaders: Before you take your leave from Ambarûl, a messenger hands you a coin. This token is to be presented to a mysterious fellow in Jirush named Sigénik. He acknowledges your presence but wishes to perform a test before providing any information. Your task is to speak with the four leaders of Jirush and determine which ones you can trust. They are:

  1. Igbâl - Water Elder Merchant. He has a trusted translator for the foreign language he speaks. He is very interested in capturing exotic animals that are head over the others.
  2. Zidemel - Elder Zealot of Ishími. He takes the restoration of people's physical ailments literally as well as figuratively by demanding appropriate replacements depending on the circumstances.
  3. Nangar - Elder Builder. His primary concern is protecting the physical aspects of the town instead of the people. This includes repairing any damage to the walls or learning enemy movements.
  4. Malgat - Elder Hunter. Keeping people maintained with clothes and food is something that is always on his mind. He works with Nisami and Ashkab in preparations.

The test is rather confusing since the rules aren't that clear. You are supposed to watch each individual's water-bearer as you converse over matters, but there is no indicator on what exactly. To make matters worse, each player's experience seems to be different. Although the game doesn't offer you a chance to evaluate each elder again, they do thankfully allow you to change all four of your answers.

Western Khanag: The game strangely does not coordinate the flow of quests very well in the region. There is yet another town just to the west of Jirush filled with all kinds of interesting, fun quests. This local marketplace will have you doing everything you can to make a donkey happy, aid a goat-herder with a new friend, take revenge on jackals for eating someone's baby, and assist a man by the name of Andur who wants a second chance. The donkey needs all kinds of care such as splashing water on him, feeding him straw, grooming him, and telling him that he is handsome. Zidek asks you to recover a goat-herder that was kidnapped by the local thugs and set him up with a stray dog as protection.

"Why are you running around with a hunk of meat?" - Ubdun

Fortress: No matter where you go, what people really want you to do is take out the Ordâkhai encampment to the north. The enemy must have been getting tired too after seeing me return there more than 7 times. You are destined to visit Ar-jirush to rescue kidnapped individuals, create distractions so a friend can steal some plans, steal coffers, and scheme a plan that will keep them busy attacking each other. Unfortunately, this grand plan doesn't work out as both sides decide to sit back and fortify their strongholds. At least they aren't likely to worry about the village for awhile. The quests themselves were painful since you had to hide in a specific spot for the courier to arrive and finding where to post the notice required exact coordinates.

"A curse, you say? A true curse? Or, a curse of words? These are very different." - Zidemel

Desert: Although doing the quests was probably the worst part of the region, exploring the remnants of the dried-out river bed had to be the most interesting. You can see where the people used to live with abandoned buildings, broken-down pillars, and statues buried in sand. The Oasis Elves point out that the withered trees by where the river used to flow are now populated with vengeful elf spirits that are forever tied to a dying region. If you listen carefully, you can hear the spirits call out from anywhere in the region, and I believe one calls out to someone called Maurice. The dead stir in the instance of Nirgambâr, the Restless Tomb. Despite each area being rather isolated from each other, there are some very interesting habitats where the local wildlife still reside. Instead of rain in which you would see in other areas, sandstorms appear to blind your view. You can see a new night sky with a nebula in each of the new regions in Legacy of Morgoth.
