Under Umbar
Under Umbar
Content: Unlike previous quest packs that provide you a number of quests to complete, Umbar-mokh does things a little differently. Initially, you would hear of "tales" from five different regions that totaled around 34 quests. For each week for the following eight weeks, the developers would release four separate tales from the Kindred of the Coin members that still remained Kholtekh the Cunning, Harmelak the Golden Queen, Rothog the Storm, and Belondor the... man from Langstrand. Completing each of the extended tales will provide you some cosmetic attire to their likeness and a painting house decoration. Finishing the chapter in the Epic will provide you the painting that represents the character you chase. Completing all quests associated in the region will provide a collective painting of all members of the Kindred of the Coin. Completing all associated deeds will provide you with a parrot pet. Oddly enough, there is one more hidden deed that was associated with the Keteph quests for eating his terrible food.
Regional Tales: Dar Laja is the centerpiece of this excavation and one lady by the name of Shemaya is currently waiting to get her problem heard. There seems to be a woman whose husband has run underground after causing problems at every tavern. When you do find the man, he is very drunk and very reluctant on heading back to their wine-shop. With a little bit of convincing and gentle persuasion, you nudge him back to his wife. Nearby in the Cellars, you find a man being chased by the cult of the All-Seeing Eye who is asking for you to retrieve a rare artifact that needs to be cleansed at a fountain and another whose ceremonial armor stolen by bandits. Ilzâna will ask you to find some missing parsels in a room full of spiders.
Kamrabezûr, the Vaults: Under the protection of Rothog the Storm, you will find former gladiators to the east from Dahal Huliz. One of them is Dabor the Breaker who asks for your help with some nearby ruffians. Fun fact: he is one of the spectators gathered around in Dragon and the Storm. Nêpharai aren't the only ones you find down these creepy tunnels. There seems to be cultists near Jâx Ugikh stirring up some undead with unusual relics by the Crypts.
Khabârkhad, the Crypts: Walking skeletons are not the only things to be worried about in this area under Umbar. There is an infestation of rats, spiders, bugs, and... little spirits. To honor Kholtekh the Cunning's request, you pay a visit at his guard outpost below. Guard Captain Nûru reports of spiders to the northeast that have taken hold of a group of his best guardsmen. He wants you to go rescue them. Another problem is the rats. He wants you to visit Mâramit in Tilmakhím to gather some traps and place them at the northern edge of Khabârkhad, near Lôkhalel. Unfortunately, the Golden Queen finds out that there have been people getting caught in these traps - despite their enormous size - and asks for you to take them down. He also reports of little spirits that come after their patrols, throwing stones at their helmets knocking their legs when they aren't looking. They seem to be more peaceful after leaving some loaves of bread as an offering. This reflects the little children you discover During Chapter 9.6 of the Epic.
Dil-irmíz, the Berths: Khaltâg at Mekab-kuphâr will tell you a story about her most beautiful wife was given a ruby necklace just months before she died. On the day she was laid to rest, the man dressed her in the finest garb and the necklace. Unfortunately, his daughter tells a different story with how the necklace changed her mother. Despite the warnings, the man runs off after beginning to hear her voice after taking the necklace. You try to save him but he was mortally wounded. You respect his last words by tossing the necklace into the sea.
"Please, throw this necklace into the Bay. It is cursed. It lets you speak with the dead... by becoming one of them. No one should wear it." - Khaltâg
Ilmabiri, the Wells: In respect of Belondor's wishes, you head down to a group of guards sent from the Fleet-fast to assess the situation under Umbar. Nashôn has setup an outpost - with a couple of bounties available - to defeat a lot of things that creep in the sewers. These include crocodiles, morroval, and bog-lurkers. One wandering creature he actually wants you to save - a cute little doggy that went chasing after a rat. The guardsman had heard of the hidden children below the streets of Umbar and was rather concern for their welfare. However, you find a camp of goblins trying to rescue their captured leader from the arena instead!
Tales of the Kindred
Khotekh the Cunning: Instead of allowing you to approach each Kindred of the Coin member to retrieve their questline, each individual has to be done in a specific order. The first character in our list is actually having a bit of a family problem in The Light and the Shadow. What transpires is a little bit of cloak and dagger with a few laughs on the way. Khotekh has dwarvish connections all around the city that help aid him when it comes to the occasional missing chest or important event. Secret hatches leading down below the city can be found in alleyways and bushes. There seems to be someone by the name of Sekhta that is causing him some personal anguish. You track down his contact Ziharax, find his right-hand man Amarbo in the Blood Market, and spend some time in Khotekh's personal house... at least the one that doesn't take as long to travel. What next conspires is a list of riddles. "The way is barred, and the keys are scarce, and quite valuable" is for the keyholes that requires a hand to open but Khotekh mentions that we should use a wight substitute in case it's a trap. After scrounging through Sekhta's belongings, we find the next riddle "A candle flickers in the dark, and is extinguished" which turns out Candle is a ship at the docks. We rush over there, Kholtekh has a few words exchanged with Sekhta before striking him down, and then it's time for some ale.
Harmelak the Golden Queen: Khotekh isn't the only one that's cunning in the Kindred of the Coin. Harmelak feeds on information in the Gilded Veneer quests and knows something isn't quite right with the count of coins coming from a noblewoman by the name of Sharûla. You make a house call, check her ledger, and make a return visit only to see her steward Zakhâz guarding the entrance. You track her down and have Harmelak's men arrest her for funding Azagath's assorted ventures. She sends you on some other errands but the people are reluctant on establishing a connection with such a powerful figure. When a man ends up getting arrested as a traitor, you question the lady's judgement. Unfortunately, your opinion gets dismissed as the ways of Umbar are beyond your understanding.
Rothog the Storm: Compared to his counterparts, Rothog's ways may seem unusual. He is very straightforward, meets with people about their accusations, and tries to do right by the people that admire him. Zarzire Dawn-star accuses one of his gladiators Shaidal in the The Gathering Storm quests of taking some of her items. However, she unusually demands for the man to be handed over and executed for his crime. You learn that Shaidal has already been sentenced to fight in the sands of Dahal Huliz for the crime of slaying one of Zarzira's competitors while employed under her care. Shaidal did have someone steal information from the crazy lady to prove his innocence. Rothog accepts but still condones his actions. He is tasked to retrieve a fearsome beast known as Ragrekhul as his punishment and freedom. Meanwhile, he wants you to go retrieve some metal chains, food, and some gladiators for the event. Zarzíra calls for another meeting and this time is so bold to attack Rothog in his own Audience Chamber. I guess the lady going out for blood found some of her own spilled.
"I will not sully my blade. Could you dispatch this filth?" - Rothog the Storm
Belondor: In A Man Adrift quests, you find yourself consoling someone who regrets following Azagath and letting Nakasi escape during the events under the remains of the All-Seeing Eye church. He sends you to gather the people and find a spot for the memorial of those lost on the Iskánta, Belondor's ship. First you have to take care of someone trying to sell some rotten fruit from the place that was full of disease to the west of Umbar. Then, someone from the Order of the Eagle tells you he has information on where the two runaways have gone but will only give it to Belondor. After convening from the debut of the mural, Belondor heads to where Azagath was and finds a hidden staircase. From the beaming skylight, there highlights a singed map of what would originally be of the full map of Haradwaith. This clues him in that they did not go by boat but traveled east of Umbar. This leads into the Legacy of Morgoth expansion.
