Events Along the Way
Song of Wave and Wind: Following up on the events of The Epic that occurred at the beginning of the year, there were a series of chapters released for Chapter 8 for Update 39 in March and Chapter 9 for Update 40 in May. Chapter 8 leaves off where the river-maidens made a surprise visit inside the Citadel of Winds. In the chaos, you managed to rescue Thorongil. Chapter 8.2 is the pivotal point where you should participate in the Depths of Mâkhda Khorbo raid. In case you don't own the expansion or can't get enough friends, you can continue with the questline where you call upon Sirgon's assistance. When you converse with Belondor at the Hungry Deep Tavern, Rothog shows up and draws his blade. However, he is stopped by the bravery of a little bird Gwallang that lands upon his weapon.
Chapter Quests: Now that you visited the ruins and saw Azagath escape, there are some optional quests you can complete from those waiting for your return. After Chapter 8.2, Rukan is still worried about the dead fish coming up on the shore from Khutra. What you find is a mysterious box - that really looks like a treasure chest - and a strand of unusual, poisonous hooks. Mokhlesh is worried there will be a tax on his winnings from the wager at Dahal Huliz. Unfortunately, Khâhir the Quick tells you that some corsairs stole the records. You retrieve the wayward wager from the upstart and find out that the winner was not the one your friend bid on. Takifh will quiz you in a game of Facts and Fictions with some red and green canopies. Nakur is worried the parcels left behind by corsairs are a start of a rebellion but ends up being a strand of normal bits and bobs. Shesha will want to ask permission for Rumina to take a bath, but Yosarin refuses for a fear of fleas on the cat.
"Wait... did I really place my money upon Othnâm? I meant to put it upon Uthmân, did I not? There should be a rule that no two fighters can be named so similarly!" - Mokhlêsh
Chapter 9: The following chapter was added along with the new quest pack Beneath the Surface in Update 40. In truth, the questline should be entitled The Tale of Tatháta the Beast. With the help of Corudan and Sigileth, you find her trail under Umbar
through an unusual tunnel with the help of some little children in the sewers. What you discover in the depths is how much
of a beast the gal really is when caught at a dead end with Cruel Dancer. To pay respect to your dying friend, you take Galatâni into the sunlight and leave her dagger upon her grave. Upon your return to the halls, you find out that the people have voted you to be the new member in the Kindred of the Coin.
"You should have told me you planned to plant your name many times in the suggestions coffer!" - Jajax
Anniversary Event: The game has been out for 17 years! So of April 2024, they dispensed a new Green Dragon Inn Keg that allows you to teleport to the place of the same name. Of course, Cordovan had to get into the action once again by dispersing some goods across the servers. I was able to participate in the event and grab some rare goods such as a Samwise Gamgee house guard and frame.
Activity Patch: Update 41 was meant to be the start to a massive update to a lot of systems. Whether they actually were or not was highly controversial. The Hard Tack Crafting Event was the second crafting event. Similarly to the Forester Event, the game was not keeping proper track of when the event was supposed to start and stop. There were numerous fixes, especially in Update 41.2. Among the long list of changes in Update 40, one line was rather interesting: "Players may now apply custom names to their Carry-alls.
These names will not appear when stored in the Vault." Despite the
flaw, developers continued to work on the system and managed to fix it in Update 41.2: "Custom names for Carry-alls now display properly in shared storage,
vault, and housing storage. Note that alphabetical sorting will continue
to sort according to the default carry-all name." Players could buy-in the Monster Reward Track. There was a slight problem with the timer that made the developers re-release the track again in Update 41.3. Birding was added at a very rudimentary and unexplained manner. While they did add birds in most of the regions in Eriador, you did not visually see the birds and they could be "seen" anywhere in the region. Rare birds were only seen after level 40. The lore-master was massively changed to the point where those who trait red no longer kept a pet by their side all the time. Although vocations were removed with Update 38, the ability to buy a fourth profession was now made available in Update 41 and a list of new four-profession tools were added. Also, "legendary items now indicate if they are ready to be reforged in the examination tooltip." Update 42 brought along the Bauble Collection Panel, but the developers were unable to implement all those little fun items like fireworks into the system. The only thing they did manage to add was the rare mithril coin costumes. Update 42 also brought the new elf avatars but there are still a bunch of adjustments being made into the new year.
Year of the Dragon: Speaking of dragons, Update 41.2 released more than just a free instance. The entire mini-expansion of Before the Shadow was now free to all players, which was strange when they sort of made them free to VIPs when releasing the legendary servers about a month earlier. Indeed, the new legendary servers released in August and has had numerous adjustments made since then. Vastin continues to make modifications in almost every patch from where wraiths spawn, adding a portal that sends you to an arena, and working on assassins in the depths of Moria. Although we saw some of the changes implemented earlier, OnnMacMahal has revamped the whole enemy system inside the instances for Update 42.2. No longer can you defeat the giant turtle in Filikul in a manner of seconds. If you find a way to withstand the 84,000 damage poison every 5 seconds, you might be able to defeat him in about 10 minutes.
